Christmas! For the Overman family, Christmas brings memories of: snow (lots of it in 1991!); stockings hanging on the hearth with a fire blazing by; turkeys, traditional Swedish frukt soppa and potatis korv with Grandma Ekblad’s steam pudding, and even a goose (which led to Ken’s appendectomy); Nobel and Fraser firs cut from nearby farms, touching the ceiling and decked with ornaments, ribbons, angels, a star on top and even candles on the boughs (lit on Christmas eve as we gathered around to sing “Silent Night, Holy Night”); family and friends exchanging gifts and pausing to read those timeless words from the Gospel of Saint Luke describing the moment when God’s only begotten Son came forth from the Virgin Mary and was laid in that manger so many years ago, giving reason for all that we celebrate with such joy and cheer. And of course, there is music. Some of our best loved songs belong to Christmas. The tunes warm our hearts with melodies and harmonies rich in texture and tone. Many of our favorites have been collected here, and are presented together with some Christmas reflections accompanied by the soothing strains of the Polish carol, “Infant Holy, Infant Lowly”. We share them in hopes that you will enjoy their sounds as much as we do. And so, we invite you to join the Overman family this Christmas as you listen to and reflect upon the eternal truth of God’s love. Merry Christmas!
